My yoga journey began in 2013, at a charity yoga event that I attended mostly for the possibility of professional networking. I had never done yoga before, although I had always thought of it as something I “should” do. But when I went to that event, the yoga was secondary to other aspects of my life at the time.
One class and I was hooked.
Since then, yoga has been a passion. It has changed my life in so many ways, both physically and psychologically. Before yoga, I felt heavy and lethargic. I didn’t feel healthy. I was prone to bouts of depression and stress/panic attacks, including waking up in the middle of the night, unable to breathe. Within even just a couple of months of practicing regularly, I felt stronger, lighter, and calmer. I found myself breathing through moments that would have normally given me anxiety and sent me running for my inhaler.
Yoga has shifted my perspective and outlook on so many things. I’m no longer nearly as stressed or as depressed as I used to be. Things I once thought were impossible are now goals. I’ve learned to trust not only in the universe (or whatever higher power exists), but also in myself. I am strong. I am confident. I thrive. Since completing my 200-hour teacher training, I want to share my experiences and what I’ve learned with others, in the hopes that they can receive the same benefits I have.
